We were really busy this week. It is our only full week of school in January. This week the weather was nice and we were able to get some more running in on our journey to Canada. Every one of us has now been able to run a mile. A couple of the kids ran the extra laps this week to get more miles on our map. We made it passed Laramie, WY. For the first time this year, everyone got a 100% on their spelling test on Wednesday. Awesome job!  Second grade started to learn about pronouns in Grammar. They were excited to finally add this part of speech to our list that we have been using. We have been doing some new activities with money.  We are also working on new projects. I did not take pictures of them working last week, but I will add some here next week. We also started planning the design for our Mars rovers. The next step will be working out the final designs with our teams. On Friday, we made some cross crafts that we took over to Westfield residents.

Wow! We have been doing so many things. This week we finished our month of NaNoWriMo. So many words were written this month. We had 8 of the 10 students make their word count goals. Several of these students made their goal early in the month and raised their goals. Great job everyone. We ended up with over 50,000 words written in the month of November. On Friday we all got together to share some of our writing that we did during November. It was great hearing some of the stories that the students came up with. Along with this, we are just finishing up the pictures in our Stuffed Animal stories. During November we were focused more on words than the pictures. So hopefully this week we will get the last of our picture pages finished and be able to have all of our Stuffed Animal picture books ready to go. We also made some ornaments to hang on the HLS Christmas tree at the Plainsman Museum. Then on Saturday the teachers went over and put up our tree. There are some pretty beautiful...

Wow! The NaNoWriMo words have jumped a huge amount this week.  We are over 20,000 words. Six of the students have already made it passed their 50% mark, some of them well passed this point. We have started to learn about Brazil. This is our first South American country that we have studied this year. I love how excited the students are to learn new things. We have been working on prepositional phrases in Grammar. This is pretty new for us, but we really have it figured out. The boy ran around the tree.  Ask us what parts of speech each of these words are.  :) We have been working on rockets during STEM / Tech time. Last week we made paper/straw rockets and tested them. We will be discussing the results this week. We will also be starting to work on our second type of rocket.
