We started a new STEM project. We are headed to Mars! The kids are very excited about it.
We have some exciting things planned for the next couple of months during our STEM time. In July 2020, NASA launched a Mars exploration mission. They sent the next Mars rover, Perseverance, also along for the ride is the helicopter drone, Ingenuity. This mission is scheduled to make it to Mars on February 18, 2021.
So we at HLS are going to be working on our own Mars mission. We will be learning about the different landing sites we could choose on Mars. We will be building and launching different types of rockets. We will build and test heat shields. To get down to the surface of Mars, we will design and build a landing device. Once our team makes it to the red planet, we will test soil samples and learn about this new world. Of course we will explore the different crops and ways to grow things there. We will also build, program and use our own rovers to explore the surface of Mars.
We started this adventure by creating hovercrafts this past week. Watch us as we make our way to Mars, right along with NASA.
We finished reading our One School One Book this week. We read the book "The Invention of Hugo Cabret" by Brian Selznick. They seemed to really enjoy the book. Of course when we were finished, they asked if there was another one. There isn't, but there are similar books by this author. We decided to read one of his other books sometime after Christmas. We do love reading together!
Second grade learned about Article Adjectives this week in Grammar. Braden was excited that he could help teach them about the Article Adjectives.
