On Monday we tested our Mars landers. It was fun seeing all of the different ideas that the students had. I love seeing them work together to get things finished. We are starting a new writing project. I am going to have them bring a stuffed animal from home. This animal/toy will be the character in a picture book that each of us will be writing. We are pretty excited to get started on this project. With all of the freezing temperatures and the snow/ice this week, we were not able to get as much running in for our journey to Canada. Hopefully it will be slightly warmer this coming week. We were excited to wear our costumes at school. It was great to walk around Hampton and share God's love with some of our older friends. By the time we finished our last house, I could tell that they were getting tired. I loved that the last couple of blocks they just started singing as we walked.

We had a really busy week.  We walked down to the Fire Barn to talk with the firefighters about fire safety.  We loved looking at all of the fire trucks and talking to the firefighter.  We want to send a big thank you for the firefighters for keeping us safe, and for helping to prepare us if there should ever be a fire in our homes. In grammar, we have been learning about Article Adjectives. They are so excited to learn a new part of speech.  Ask us what the 3 Article Adjectives are.  We have been talking about our Natural Resources in Science. We are learning about maps, and how to find places based on the grid. We are studying Sweden. In Tech/Stem time we are working on getting to Mars. This week we decided on our landing sites. Next week we will start building and testing our landing devices. We also made it to our Running goal.  All of the students are now able to run a 1/2 mile (two times around the block) without stopping. So we invited our fam...

We started a new STEM project.  We are headed to Mars! The kids are very excited about it.   We have some exciting things planned for the next couple of months during our STEM time. In July 2020, NASA launched a Mars exploration mission. They sent the next Mars rover, Perseverance, also along for the ride is the helicopter drone, Ingenuity. This mission is scheduled to make it to Mars on February 18, 2021. So we at HLS are going to be working on our own Mars mission. We will be learning about the different landing sites we could choose on Mars. We will be building and launching different types of rockets. We will build and test heat shields. To get down to the surface of Mars, we will design and build a landing device. Once our team makes it to the red planet, we will test soil samples and learn about this new world. Of course we will explore the different crops and ways to grow things there. We will also build, program and use our own rovers to explore the surface...
